African Nova Scotian Community Action Planning Intern – Halifax Regional Municipality

Our Internship program offers paid 18-month internships for new grads interested in a career in municipal public service. The program provides training, development, and on-the-job experience for candidates that have graduated within the last 24 months.

We are inviting applications for the Up to 18-month term position of African Nova Scotian Community Action Intern in Planning and Development .This is a bargaining unit position; external candidates will be considered if there are no qualified NSGEU 222 candidates. 

The Intern Program is designed to provide experiential learning and maximum professional exposure to interns in their chosen field of study while exploring the benefits of working for the municipality. Over the course of the internship, candidates will learn about government policy, operations, administration, services, and planning in a collaborative and supportive environment.  Interns make a difference in our community and organization! 

This position will be designated with the intent to hire a individual from those who self-identify as African Nova Scotians or of African Descent . Applicants are encouraged to self-identify on their electronic application.

Working with the Planning and Development Department’s African Nova Scotian Community Action Program, which forms part of the Regional & Community Planning Division, this position will support African Nova Scotian communities in the creation and implementation of Community Planning Strategies and Action Plans.

Office Coordinator – Association of Black Social Workers

The Association of Black Social Workers (ABSW) is a volunteer charitable organization consisting of
Black Social Workers and Social Service Workers throughout the province, whose objective is to
provide information and resources about social work-related projects and programs for persons of
African descent. The ABSW also offers services such as counselling and advocacy to individuals as
well as the community. The ABSW seeks to educate the public through the promotion of learning
opportunities, production of resources, conferences and workshops on matters affecting the Black
family and community throughout the province of Nova Scotia.
The Office Coordinator will perform administrative duties as directed by the Executive Director, to
include office management procedures, providing receptionist duties, preparation/organization and
filing of documents both physical and electronic. As well, drafting reports and presentations, handle
incoming correspondence, respond to emails and inquires, as well as conduct brief initial intake of
needs from telephone calls or walk-in clients and triage/direct to the appropriate person or place.
